Buddhism in both its Zen and Shingon form was brought to Croatia by Shifu Nagaboshi in the early 1970's He set up all the groups and held the first classes in doctrine, meditation and later, rituals. he also initiated many study groups amongst other non related arts and trainings he was involved in bringing to the country. Quality rather than quantity was always his criteria and in the course of implementing this 'sieve' many fell by the wayside. Though he was informed of this verbally and
directly, he took great care not to let his own dojo members know of it.
In his place we appointed the teacher who had originally brought Kempo
into Croatia during the early 1970's and with whom we had always been
in touch. Within a year of this being done, this expelled member set
up his 'own' group, proclaimed himself a Buddhist teacher and desperately
tried to legitimise himself by getting someone well known to head his
group.
During early 1994 the person appointed by our group to act as the current
representative for Croatia was relieved of his post. This event came after
several years of the head dojo Yudanshakai warning him to properly fulfil his obligations
to the students, which he had failed to do. He also failed to interact with students at a personal level prefering instead to keep them at a distance whilst maintaining a position and attitude of superiority in judgement over them. This was in blatant contradiction to the instructors vows he had taken. Although a good teacher his attutude made it impossible for him to help students properly with their problems and many felt unable to even approach him. Certain of the
people in one of his dojos were revealed to be active members of an infamous Black Magic group, another was connected with a family Arms dealing company.
The Croat man's English teacher
had advised him to get rid of these people for several years running but
was ignored. Rather than risk students being influenced by these would be
wizards or misled by this local teacher's laissez faire it was felt better
to relieve him of his post and the English teacher concenrned informed him that he would not be coming back to teach
at his dojo anymore if he did not improve his ways.
Eventually after some failed attempts, he managed to persuade
an unknowing Chinese Chaan teacher in the USA to 'head' his group. His
ambitions increasing he has since attempted to become a member of the
European Buddhist Union and also a Buddhist Teachers group. None of
these know or suspect his background. He also seems to have created another explanation as to why his
English teacher no longer comes to teach the students of his dojo.
Those Croat students misguided
enough to stay with him at this time followed his own bad example
and left him, setting up their own renegade dojos.
This is what
happens to those who are schismatics and once again the students are the ones who must pay the price for his bad judgements
and inability to follow the prescribed rules of conduct and loyalty
towards ones teachers.
In Buddhism such things are
regarded as spiritual defeats of the worst kind.
